As a Big Data Engineer, you will be a part of the GBM Surveillance IT Department. You will work in a global agile development team helping deliver the first step towards Surveillance’s technology target state. You will help develop, and manage data processing components, and storage technologies to support, and improve Surveillance’s way of working in order to achieve strategic objectives. You will work for one of the world’s largest banking, and financial services organizations.

Your main responsibilities:

• Working with the Product Owner to understand stakeholder requirements
• Building, and managing data processing components, and storage technologies
• Onboarding new data sources, and constructing data processing pipelines to present required views of data for application developers
• Working with Data Scientists to produce proactively developed analytics
• Ensuring that development is undertaken in line with continuous integration, and test-driven development philosophies, and that code quality standards, and processes are adhered to
• Working with Architects to both validate designs, and ensure adherence to the agreed approach
• Carrying out unit testing to ensure the quality of delivered components

You’re ideal for the role if you have:

• Broad understanding of ETL, and Big Data technologies
• Practical experience with Apache Spark
• Experience with programming languages (Scala, Java)
• Experience with Apache Hadoop (Yarn, HDFS)

It is a strong plus if you have:

• Experience with ELK stack
• Experience in deploying services on the Google Cloud Platform
• Knowledge of DataFlow, Kubernetes, Airflow, Ansible
• Practical knowledge of Maven, Git, Jenkins, Linux, Bash shell scripting
• Basic Python knowledge
• Experience with Spring framework including Spring Boot
