As a Cobol Developer you will be working for our client, a leading international financial institution undergoing a large-scale transformation of its core banking systems. You will be part of a skilled, multicultural team responsible for developing, maintaining, and modernising critical applications that support key business processes. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact projects, ensuring system stability while implementing new functionalities. You will collaborate closely with analysts, architects, and testers to deliver high-quality solutions in a dynamic, global environment.

Your main responsibilities: Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using COBOL in mainframe environments

  • Analyse and translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Optimise existing code for performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Perform code reviews and ensure compliance with coding standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts and testers
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design to deployment
  • Ensure data integrity and adherence to security guidelines
  • Document technical solutions and maintain up-to-date system documentation
  • Support migration and integration initiatives related to core banking systems

You’re ideal for this role if you have:

  • Proven professional experience as a COBOL Developer in mainframe environments
  • Strong understanding of mainframe tools and utilities (e.g., JCL, DB2, CICS)
  • Ability to analyse, design, and implement efficient software solutions
  • Experience working with large-scale financial or banking systems
  • Proficiency in English at a minimum B2 level
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and distributed team
  • Familiarity with version control systems and development best practices
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality code
  • Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders
