Her main tasks include recruiting candidates who best match the current needs of ongoing projects. In her daily work, Ania focuses primarily on mutual commitment and partnership.

Programming is a constantly evolving field of IT, thus programming languages are evolving, too. It’s important that developers stay up to date with the latest trends and tools. What are the most promising programming languages of the future? I will discuss them in the article below.

Ranking the most popular programming languages

The IT industry is constantly evolving and in order to meet its requirements, it’s essential to keep up with the times. Thus, as part of the Just Join IT Ambassador Program, a study was conducted in which students were asked about the programming languages they considered to be the most popular and future-oriented. The respondents were not chosen randomly, as the sample consisted of students with IT specializations such as Computer Science or Cybersecurity.

After analyzing the results, it was found that Python was recognized as the most promising programming language (by over 63% of respondents). It is playing an extremely important role in the development of artificial intelligence. The next most highly rated programming languages are:

  • JavaScript – 49%,
  • Java – 33,5%,
  • C/C++ – 27%.

Even though the sample size was not too big, as it consisted of only 200 respondents, it was large enough to give us an idea about the programming languages that Polish students treat as priorities.

This trend is confirmed by foreign rankings of the top languages of 2023, where Python also comes in first due to its breadth of uses, which go beyond application and software development. It is becoming increasingly popular in academic circles, where it’s used in such fields as data science, computational science, machine learning and research on natural language processing. Java Script, Java and C++ are the next most popular, according to a survey by Forbes.

List of top future-oriented programming languages

The results of the annual survey conducted by JetBrains in 2022 yielded important findings on programming languages. On the basis of opinions collected from over 29,200 developers from around the globe, the world’s most widely used programming language was determined to be JavaScript, closely followed by Python, which is steadily strengthening its position.

Based on this data and research conducted in Poland, the programming languages that are currently the most popular and recognized as the most future oriented are: JavaScript, Python, Java, TypeScript, Kotlin and C++.

JavaScript

JavaScript is the programming language that dominates web browsers and enables user interaction with web pages. It is extremely popular and is widely used to create interactive websites, web applications, games and mobile applications. It is used by Facebook, YouTube and Gmail, among others.-

This tool imparts substantial dynamism and interactivity to websites. It is a high-level language. This means that in the course of programming, a higher level of abstraction is used, not manipulation in memory or directly on the processor.

The distinctive features of JavaScript are:

  • speed – no need to compile code, as it is executed by default in the browser;
  • single-threading – only one operation can be performed at a time;
  • multi-paradigm – enables object-oriented, imperative or functional programming;
  • independence from the operating system;
  • updates from ECMAScript.

For these reasons, JavaScript has earned its popularity and recognition, which will no doubt extend into the near future.

Python

Python is one of the most popular programming languages among beginners as well as experienced programmers. It’s widely used in such fields as data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, web development and automation. Python has a simple and readable syntax, which makes it easy to learn and understand. Moreover, it’s free to use. It has cross-platform features that enable it to be used from different operating systems. Thanks to these features, Python will most likely top the list of future-oriented programming languages.

Java

Even though it’s one of the longest-used language, Java is still among the most popular, and it doesn’t appear this will change anytime soon. Java rules the business world. Most applications used by banks, large corporations and governments are written in it. This is because the most powerful development platforms are built with this language. Java is still trusted by large companies such as Amazon and Google as well as Android applications, although it is increasingly being replaced by Kotlin in this area.

TypeScript

TypeScript’s market share has almost tripled over the past six years, rising from 12% in 2017 to 34% in 2022 [3]. It’s a programming language developed by Microsoft as an extension of JavaScript. Its most important feature is the addition of static and strong typing. TypeScript is mainly used for website development, but can also be used in other applications.

Kotlin

This is a relatively new programming language that’s become very popular in recent years, especially for writing mobile apps. It was developed by JetBrains, the same company that made IntelliJ IDEA, one of the most popular integrated development environments for Java. Kotlin can be used with any platform that supports Java.

C++

In the world of programming languages, C++ is a veteran. Nevertheless, it remains very popular among programmers and will continue to be frequently used in the future. That’s because C++ still has a lot to offer. It is stable, powerful and fast. It’s used in many fields, including robotics, development of large graphics applications and video games.

Attractive programming languages = future career in IT

The Polish IT market has a deficit of as many as 300,000 programmers. To a large extent, this shortage can be attributed to the shrinking number of young people studying in specialist IT fields. Moreover, recent graduates lack the experience expected on the labor market and specialization in narrow subfields where they are needed most.

Another factor impacting the IT labor market is the growing popularity of remote work, which enables domestic specialists to work for foreign employers. These, compared to Polish firms, can offer much more competitive terms of employment, which – as you can guess – often convinces experienced employees to take jobs elsewhere.

From the very beginning, the IT industry has dealt with constant changes, reorganizations and breakthroughs, which have been bound up with the need to adapt to the overall market. This is why I’m convinced that the industry will always be able to meet the challenges it faces. All IT specialists are aware of the need to keep abreast of innovations and continuously educate themselves, and it’s often this aspect that brings them to the profession. It’s not surprising then that a requirement for getting an attractive job is knowledge and the ability to use future-oriented programming languages at work as well as the desire to continue growing professionally.

Nevertheless, education and experience are one thing, and adapting to and thriving in the business world are quite another. The support of companies such as ITDS Polska, which specializes in outsourcing IT engineers, can help programmers navigate the labor market. For ITDS, there is nothing unfamiliar or surprising about recruitment processes and mediation between companies and specialists.
