Engineers who can respond to incidents calmly, diagnose root causes, and prevent issues from recurring are incredibly valuable. You don’t need to love being on-call – you just need to be willing to close the loop rather than hand problems off. Develop a working knowledge of security. You don’t need to become a security specialist, but you do need to stop shipping obvious vulnerabilities. Regulations are tightening, breaches are expensive, and engineers who understand authentication flows, token management, and the principle of least privilege stand out from the majority. Security awareness is increasingly a baseline expectation, not a bonus.
