How we compare IT outsourcing companies for banking

For each company we answer three questions: for which banking need it is worth considering, what public sources show, and what to clarify before you sign. We look at financial-sector experience, engagement models, scale and locations.

The information comes from company websites, company profiles, reports and established industry media. Figures published by the companies themselves are marked as their own claims. If something is missing from a profile, the company may still offer it.

How IT outsourcing works at a bank

In staff augmentation, the specialist joins the bank's team and works under its direction. With a dedicated team or a project, part of the responsibility for planning and results moves to the provider, so the contract has to spell that out.

A typical process covers the role brief, candidate shortlist, interviews, paperwork and security onboarding, meaning access rights and internal training. At a bank, that last step often takes longer than finding the candidate.

On the bank's side, outsourcing falls under banking law, supervisory guidelines and DORA, the EU regulation on digital operational resilience, available on EUR-Lex. That is why banks ask providers about security, business continuity, subcontractors and exit terms. This is general information, not legal advice.

Questions to ask a provider before you decide

  • Which similar bank projects have the proposed specialists worked on?
  • How do you vet technical skills and domain knowledge?
  • How long does it usually take to present candidates and start at a bank with similar requirements?
  • What does the rate include, and what extra costs might come up?
  • How do replacements and changes in team size work?
  • Do you use subcontractors, and where are services performed?
  • How does the engagement end, and how is knowledge handed over?

IT outsourcing companies for banking: FAQ

Which IT outsourcing company is best for a bank?

The choice depends on who should own the result. If the provider will implement or maintain a system, its products and implementation track record matter most, which is where Asseco and Comarch are strong. If the bank wants to add people to its own teams, specialist availability and vetting matter more, which is the focus of Edge1S, ITDS and Scalo, among others.

How long does it take to bring an IT specialist into a bank?

The timeline has three parts: presenting candidates, the bank's interviews, and paperwork plus security onboarding. Ask the provider about each part separately, because onboarding is usually what delays the start.

What is the difference between staff augmentation and a dedicated team?

In staff augmentation, the bank directs the experts and owns the result. A dedicated team works only for the bank and, depending on the contract, may have a lead on the provider's side who shares responsibility for delivery.

Does IT outsourcing at a Polish bank need approval from the KNF?

It depends on the scope of the outsourced activities and on the rules in force. DORA also added requirements for ICT service providers. The bank's legal and compliance teams assess each contract.

Which roles do banks most often fill through outsourcing?

In the job ads of the providers on this list, the most common roles are Java and .NET developers, business and systems analysts, testers, and DevOps, cloud and data specialists.

How to narrow your shortlist

First decide whether the bank needs specialists for its own team, a team with a lead on the provider's side, or a partner responsible for a system. Then send the same brief to two or three companies and compare the people they propose and the full contract terms. If the skills you need are scarce in Poland, teams in Portugal are available from providers such as ITDS Nearshore.
