As an Automation and Observability Engineer, you will be working for our client, a leading financial institution, within their Managed File Transmission team. This team is responsible for managing file transfers across a variety of platforms and technologies, ensuring secure and efficient operations. You will be instrumental in delivering automation solutions, enhancing observability, and supporting the team’s strategic initiatives to improve self-service infrastructure and automated governance.
Your main responsibilities:
- Delivering and implementing automation solutions for the platform
- Collaborating with operations, engineering teams, developers, and infrastructure teams to assess automation needs
- Implementing and maintaining observability and monitoring frameworks
- Working with application teams to set up observability for their applications and infrastructure
- Using Jenkins to develop CI/CD pipelines
- Utilizing Ansible for configuration management and deployment
- Building performance and tracing practices using tools like Splunk, AppDynamics, and ThousandEyes
- Engineering solutions and establishing standards for observability tools
- Seeking opportunities to automate deployments and reduce operational tasks
- Communicating tool capabilities and processes to stakeholders
- Scheduling and hosting tool training sessions for better adoption and best practices
- Providing input on improving the global operating model for monitoring and observability services
You’re ideal for this role if you have:
- 3+ years of experience with GitHub, Jenkins, and Ansible
- 5+ years of experience with Linux fundamentals, scripting, PowerShell, and Python
- 2+ years of experience with Splunk, AppDynamics, and ThousandEyes
- Knowledge of REST API development for monitoring extensions
- Application development experience (Java) at an enterprise level
- Experience with architecture tech stacks including Java app servers, web servers, Golang, Kubernetes, OpenShift, PCF, AWS, and Google Cloud
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, Confluence, and Jira
- Experience in defining, creating, and supporting monitoring dashboards
- Experience with monitoring and observability solutions for Unix and Oracle databases
- Understanding of application performance metrics, KPIs, statistical calculations, machine learning, and correlation
- Experience with APM in deployment for mission-critical applications
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and take ownership of projects
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with business and technology groups
- Understanding of end-to-end business processes and the ability to translate them into system requirements
- Technical writing experience in queries, reports, and presentations
It is a strong plus if you have:
- Cloud implementation experience with GCP or equivalent
- Knowledge of event management tools and operations automation like AIOps
- Practical knowledge of distributed service design, including messaging protocols and caching strategies
- Experience implementing and adjusting tools and methodology for monitoring and observability products such as Elasticsearch, Grafana, Prometheus
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to be able to deal with and form good relationships with the business and other technology groups through day-to-day support and project work
